King Valley Aquaponics grew from years of building systems, raising fish, propagating seedlings and experimenting with different ways of producing food in North East Victoria.
Today we're building on that experience — returning to growing, testing new ideas and looking at how aquaponics can become part of a more productive year-round food-growing system.

KVA has always been about doing the work: learning how the biology functions, building and modifying systems, growing crops, raising seedlings and seeing what performs in a regional climate.
Training with Murray Hallam and Practical Aquaponics became one influence on our approach, but the real learning came from running our own systems — adjusting water flow, filtration, growing methods, crop choices and seasonal management as we went.

We're exploring a future KVA setup built around protected growing, a wood-fired hydronic heating system with gas backup, and space for demonstrations and hands-on learning.
It is a staged direction rather than something already built. The aim is simple: grow more reliably through the colder months, keep testing what works in the King Valley and create a better place to share that experience.
