Our systems

The KVA archive documents practical aquaponics system development, including the Indy-23 and later grow-bed, media-bed and deep-water-culture approaches. The photographs below show systems at different stages of construction and operation.

That hands-on history is important to the next stage of KVA: future development can build on existing knowledge of system layout, crop establishment, fish, water movement and day-to-day operation rather than beginning from scratch.

PRACTICAL OPERATION

System design is only part of the job.

A working aquaponics system is a living system. Water quality, oxygen, temperature, fish stocking and feeding, plant load, pumps and filtration all affect performance. That is why KVA's history of building and operating real systems is an important part of the story.
