Aquaponics is not completely hands-off: pumps, aeration, water quality, feeding and plant health still need regular attention. That balance is also what makes it such an interesting way to grow food.

The important part is the relationship between all three living components. Healthy fish, an established bacterial community and actively growing plants all contribute to the stability of the system.
